Year 2023 In Review

This year has been a fun one for Waxwork Records. It has been a year of many firsts for the company. Let's take a look at some of this year's feats!

Pressing Our Own Records

This year we took the biggest step as a company since we were founded ten years ago: we finally opened up our own pressing plant! Last February, we rolled our first presses into the building, and we've been smashing wax nonstop ever since! Pressing records is not as easy as it looks. There are so many intricate details that go into every vinyl record we create. This has been a rewarding experience for us, as we not only get to create our own vinyl releases, but we get to press great records for some of our long time friends (we're looking at you, Sacred Bones) and some new friends, too! (I mean, Twin Tribes? Come on!) This experience rewarded us the opportunity to mess around with some wild pressings that not only look stellar, but sound stellar, too. And the pressing plant adventure is just beginning! To see some more of our awesome pressings, check out this blog post!

 Video Game Soundtracks

Along with pressing the movie soundtracks you know and love, this year we also took our first shot at releasing video game soundtracks on vinyl. This was something that we've always wanted to experiment with, and 2023 was the year for us to try it out. Video game music is finally getting the respect it deserves, and is one of the fastest growing genres on vinyl! So far, we have released two highly anticipated video game scores: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre The Game, a brilliant and terrifying dive into the world of Leatherface and co., and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the Grammy-nominated score to the sci-fi adventure game that has taken the gaming world by storm. With the massive growth in video game soundtracks happening, we are looking forward to what the future has in store for us in the video game realm!

 Neil Gaiman Visits

Year 2023 was filled with big things. One of the biggest was a visit from the great Neil Gaiman! In case you weren't aware, Gaiman is an award-winning author, screenwriter, comic book creator, and so much more. One of his more celebrated creations was the comic book series The Sandman, which was recently turned into a television show by Netflix. Waxwork was lucky enough to press the soundtrack for The Sandman, and while Neil was in town, he had the chance to stop by Waxwork HQ! While he was here, he got to press his very own copies of The Sandman! "This is just incredible! It is harder to come by new experiences that I have yet to try, and this was definitely a completely new experience for me," Gaiman said. Mr. Gaiman, it was an honor to have you here, and you are welcome anytime!

Looking Forward to 2024

Whew! 2023 almost wore us out! But we ain't done yet! There are some big things coming in 2024. Stay tuned to hear all the details about next year's subscription! (It's a doozy!) We also have plenty more collaborations with Rob Zombie to look forward to, some new favorites pressed for the first time, and old classics getting a fresh release. So keep your eyes peeled! There will also be some much-requested re-releases hitting our presses, and your turntables, next year. (Beetlejuice, anyone?) Keep up to date with all our goings on by following us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Letterboxd, TikTok, and of course, here on Know The Score! There is so much to look forward to from your friends at Waxwork Records! So let's sing a round of "Auld Lang Syne" to 2023 and get ready for an exciting new year!

Thank you to everyone who has joined us on this wild ride this year. It's meant a lot to us, especially those who have supported us through pre-orders! It's a vital part of our business operations and allows us to grow with our customers.

Signed everyone here at Waxwork Records!

Thanks for the amazing vinyl of 2023. Looking forward to 2024!
Do you think you could get to release a Neon Demon soundtrack?

Hi there all Waxwork team. Thanks for the great releases this year and hope you keep on unearthing and recuperating hidden or forgotten treasures from the 70’s, 80’s, from before and after. I used to send so many letters to movie companies and small OST record labels back in the 80’s getting a “not possible to release” answer or “no plans to release score” many times. Here are some personal wish scores…they could be too old or not popular enougb for vinyl production but…just saying and dreaming is for free ;) The Legend of Hell House (1973) (electronic score by Delia Derbyshire, Brian Hodgson, Dudley Simpson); Visiting Hours (1982) (Jonathan Goldsmith – active); Demonoid (1981) (electronic score by Richard Gillis; Most Von Dexter’s scores to William Castle movies: House on Haunted Hill (1959); The Tingler (1959); 13 Ghosts (1960); Mr.Sardonicus (1961); Dr.Terror House of Horrors (1965) (Elizabeth Luytens); The Entity (1982) (Charles Bernstein) (out only on CD – Intrada). Have an amazing 2024 !!
